A Sacred Journey

We are all on a shared sacred journey. Our individual paths may be diverse, but I am convinced that we are all geared to one destination – the realization of Love – the Love of God with God. There are many ways people interpret this mystical Presence in their own life experience. As Jalaluddin Rumi once said:

“There are a thousand ways to kneel down and kiss the ground.”

Many traditions have their own way of saying that all rivers lead to the ocean.

I like the premise in Alcoholics Anonymous of “God as you understand God.” How welcoming that is! It is an open-door policy that invites all people into the circle of Love.

I have learned much along my path, and surely, there is more to come. God only knows what discoveries lay ahead. But one thing I do know is that I have a yearning to live into God’s desire. It is a determined ember that burns within me and fuels my quest; a homing device that steadily guides my path. It has always been with me. In my darkest time of seven years of oblivion, it was there. When I ascended from that darkness it was there. It has led me through the narrow gate of life that has been the opening to something more expansive than I could imagine and yet remains mysterious. The glow of this homing device continues to pull me forward into the mystery of my heart, knowing me better than I know myself.

My journey has had many twists and turns. Through it all I have fostered a deep love and respect for Jesus. Through his life and teachings, he has given me an authentic way of living out my faith. He is my teacher, my brother, my friend, and most importantly, a window to the divine – a window that has gradually awakened me to the wonderfully amazing and mysterious energy of Love and Life-force that pulses throughout the universe and all creation. This is God as I understand God.
